SQ Intro

SQ intro is a very basic sound quality competition that is designed to help the first time competitor learn about competition and prepare him/her for higher levels of competition at future events. This division will include a basic sound judging format, a “safety only” installation section, and an SPL run to familiarize the competitor with SPL judging. This SPL score will not be a part of the finals score but may be used to determine a tie.

Qualifications: this class is for new competitors only. The head judge at his/her discretion may disqualify any competitor whose audio system is too advanced for this division.

Divisions:

Consumer - open

Pro - open

Consumer and Pro are defined in the “Advanced SQ” section

Sound Quality

Staging:

Front Stage = 10 points

If the majority of the music sounds as if it is in front of the listener then full points will be awarded.

Center Stage = 7 points

If the music sounds like it is all around the listener or slightly in front of or to the rear of the listener then 7 points will be awarded.

Rear stage = 4 points.  

If the majority of the sound appears to be behind the listener then a score of 4 points will be awarded.

Width:

Wider than car = 10 points

If the music seems to be wider than the “a” pillars on both sides of the vehicle then 10 points will be awarded.

AS wide as car = 7 points

If the music is as wise as the car (A pillar to a pillar) then 7 points will be awarded.

Not as wide as car = 4 points.  

If the music is not as wide as the “A” pillars or is wider on one side an not the other then the system will be awarded 4 points.

Installation:

Batteries safely mounted - 1 or 5 points

The battery should be mounted in such a way as to keep it from falling out of the car if the car should be overturned in an accident.:  

Power system fuse - 1 or 5 points

The main system power wire should be fused to prevent a possible system fire

Head unit mounted - 1 or 5 points

The head unit should be mounted so as not to be removed from the dash without  tools.

EQ’s, crossovers, processors - 1 or 5

The processors should be mounted so as not to be removed from the dash without  tools.

Speakers - 1 or 5

Speakers should be mounted to the vehicle so as  not to be removed without tools.

Amplifiers - 1 or 5

The amplifiers should be mounted so as not to be removed without  tools.

Overall system appearance - 1 to 5

The system is installed neatly. Wires are hidden from view, system looks nice.  

Rules for SPL, voltage, etc. will be taken from the USACI Outlaw SPL “Basic Stock” rules.
